Eulogy
Who would have thought that such a sunny day
Would spell the ending out in a backwards fashion
Senile transgression
The beating bump of the bass
You blew the smoke near my face
And the men in blue took our names
Though while it's hard to comprehend
That we'll all stumble to dead ends
I still remember the way the rays
Made the red so vibrant
And did I not feel the pang
Though the phone never rang
And did it not strike a chord
Of diminished energy
I wonder what closed eyes see
After long kept in the dark
Who would have thought
Tell me, who would have thought
That I would whisper your name between sobs
Who would have thought
That following our sardonic laughter
I would breathe in all that you left
And if I scowl and wilt and rumble
If I fall and cave and crumble
I will not honor your good name
It will not change
A damn thing
-----------------------------------------------------
I will never forget you.
