Infinite
The cold wind blew her hair across her face
And I whispered her name under the gust
As she sang loudly and out of key
About how she wanted to escape
She didn't hear me
And that's exactly how it needed to be.
When we reached the mouth of the woods
She said for me to take the lead
But I was lost and out of place
And didn't know which paths to trace.
So I stumbled out of line
And ran between the bushes and the trees
Caught my face in webs and leaves
While singing my own song
Short
And sweet
And completely unheard.
We mechanical dreamers
We selfish stars
With clammy hands
And shaky fingers
We live and die in the struggle
To feel infinite.
And I whispered her name under the gust
As she sang loudly and out of key
About how she wanted to escape
She didn't hear me
And that's exactly how it needed to be.
When we reached the mouth of the woods
She said for me to take the lead
But I was lost and out of place
And didn't know which paths to trace.
So I stumbled out of line
And ran between the bushes and the trees
Caught my face in webs and leaves
While singing my own song
Short
And sweet
And completely unheard.
We mechanical dreamers
We selfish stars
With clammy hands
And shaky fingers
We live and die in the struggle
To feel infinite.
