Whispering Tides
I save everything
And of all the things I give
And take away
Smile lines map out
Just where I stray,
They're yours to keep,
To keep you happy in the light,
Where all can see.
Resign,
Calmly sit upon the rocks and sigh
Washing hands in salty, whispering tides
Where sand will fill the holes
Complete the picture
As it hangs crooked from off your nose.
Oh, the tumble of the falls
The wind that breaks and stalls
The sails from bursting in
The right direction.
Off to Antarctica we go
Where no one knows our faces
And cannot distinguish
Me from you.
Oh, the canopies save the angels
Dangling from the skies
And we still sail
To distant lands with hair for twine
And scarves as flags to claim for keeps.
We will save everything
From the seas.
-------------------------------------------
I really, really, really want to go on a sea voyage.
I don't think I will ever get the chance.
And if I do I will probably drown.
I still remember the pull from the water.
I remember the moon as I gazed,
Through the drifting clouds,
And darkened sky,
Into the ocean,
On the coast of Rhode Island.
I remember the way the sand felt.
I remember the sticks and long trails,
Of rocks that carved a line into the ocean.
I wish I could have that moment back,
And relive it every night.
I was so happy,
And so ignorant,
And so unprepared for anything.
And of all the things I give
And take away
Smile lines map out
Just where I stray,
They're yours to keep,
To keep you happy in the light,
Where all can see.
